The Headliners are our local “All- Star” group that will get the opportunity to play extra gigs throughout the year. The group will be comprised of kids from the Cleveland area schools which at this point include Rocky River and Highland Heights.  As more schools are added, kids from those schools will be integrated into the group. So the competition will only get tougher.  Tommy has talked with the kids about what is required of them to be involved in the headliners and we wanted to make sure the parents are aware of the requirements as well. This is an elite program that requires a higher level of commitment from the students than our regular program. Talent is an important element but NOT the only thing we are looking for.  Here are some of the things we will look for:

  1. Students need to prove that they are proficient at their instrument(s) and one of the top players in the program.
  2. They also need to demonstrate a serious desire to learn and take on more musical responsibility.  Sometimes a Headliner will have to learn a song on short notice.  If a student in the headliners is assigned a song and they don’t know their part when it comes time to play, it is highly likely that they will be dismissed.
  3. They MUST show that they are leaders in the school.  We expect Headliner kids to help mentor the younger or inexperienced kids when they are in the school.  We also expect Headliners to help welcome new kids into the program by introducing themselves and making them feel at home.
  4. Headliners are expected, like all of our students, to participate fully in loading and unloading gear before and after shows.  If you are a standing around and don’t know what to do, just ask one of the staff members what you can do to help.
  5. Of course we expect headliners to behave while they are at the school.  Like all students, we expect the headliner kids to be focusing on music when they are at the school and to lead by example.
  6. They MUST approach Tommy and ask to be in the Headliners, only then will they be considered.
  7. There are NO addition costs for being a headliner.

Inclusion in “The Headliners” is by invitation only.  We understand that not all students are looking for that extra opportunity.  The regular Rock School program is a big enough challenge for most kids.  If you or your child does not feel up to the challenge, please decline the invitation.  Declining an invitation now does not preclude you from an invitation down the road.  We only want students that are serious about taking there abilities to that next level.
